Large 80 inch x 25 inch
Small 55 inch x 22 inch

Supplies
4 stitch markers, 1 a different colour
Scissors and yarn needle
6 mm/J hook
Large 300 grams of Fiberific 8ply/DK/ number 3 light worsted Small 200 grams

Ch 3 counts as a dc

Use the different coloured stitch marker to mark the ends with your increases on them

When working the cross stitches they will stack on top of each other

You gain 1 stitch every row

Hdc rows are worked in blocks of 6 rows

Sts - stitches
St - stitch
Hdc - half double crochet
Hdcdec - half double crochet decrease
Dc - double crochet
Dcdec - double crochet decrease

Hdc rows

1. RS - ch 4 (place a stitch marker in the 4th ch, 1 hdc into the 4th ch from hook. Place a st marker anywhere on this row to mark the RIGHT side of your work  turn (2 sts)

2. WS - ch 3 (place st marker in 3 rd ch just made) 3 hdc into the top of the ch 3 (this is the stitch we marked on row 1) turn ( 4 sts )

Each time you do a ch 3, move up the stitch marker from the row below and mark the 3rd ch​

3. RS - ch 3 (place st marker in 3rd ch just made) 2 hdc into same st as ch 3, hdc in next stitch, you have 2 stitches left, not including the ch 3, hdcdec, DO NOT work into ch 3 that is marked with a st marker (5sts)

4. WS - ch 3, hdc into each st across, 3 hdc into the top of the ch 3

5. RS - ch 3, 2 hdc in same stitch, hdc across, until you have 2 stitches left, not including the ch 3, hdcdec, DO NOT work into ch 3 that is marked with a st marker 

6. Repeat row 4

7. RS - ch 3, 2 dc into the same stitch, cross stitch across the row, dcdec into the last 2 st, DO NOT work into ch 3 that is marked with a st marker

​8. WS - ch 3, cross stitch across, 3 dc into the top of the ch 3

Hdc rows (always started on the right side) Note: HDC rows are worked in blocks of 6 rows Repeat rows 5 and 6 for 6 rows of hdc

Cross stitch rows

• Repeat 7 and 8 for 4 rows of cross stitch

Hdc stitch rows​

• Repeat rows 5 and 6 for (6 rows of hdc)

NOTE: from now on when we do a section of cross stitch rows we add 2 more rows of cross stitch Eg. Last section was 4 rows of cross stitch, next section is 6 and next section is 8 rows etc

• Repeat 7 and 8 for 6 rows of cross stitch

Hdc stitch rows

• Repeat rows 5 and 6 for (6 rows of hdc)

Cross stitch rows

• Repeat 7 and 8 for 8 rows of cross stitch

Hdc stitch rows

• Repeat rows 5 and 6 for (6 rows of hdc)

Stop here for smaller shawl, finish off and sew in ends

• Work 6 rows of hdc BUT do not do the decreasing
